Bonsall Remembered Book
The launch of a new local history book ‘Winster, Bonsall, Elton and Birchover Remembered – Aspects of Village Life through Peace and War’ by Keith Taylor, took place at Bonsall Village Hall on Saturday October 10th. A display of photographs from the book was also on view. The book is an evocative portrait of bygone days in the upland villages during the late 19th century and throughout the turbulent years of the 20th century. 570 photographs provide a nostalgic glimpse of village scenes, schooldays, leisure time activities, sporting occasions, Wakes Weeks and working life, either on the farm or in the quarries, mills and lead mines. The book tells the stories of the lives and deaths of all the men whose names are commemorated on each village war memorial, as well as recalling life on the Home Front, including the arrival of evacuees and the activites of the Home Guard.

For further information, contact Keith Taylor on 01629 732622 or 07790 575077
