On Saturday November 3rd you are invited to the launch of a new local history book by local author Keith Taylor: “The Matlocks and District in the Second World war – a diary of events in Matlock, Matlock Bath and district 1935-1955.”
The venue for the launch is Matlock Library between the hours of 10am and 2pm. 530 photographs provide nostalgic glimpses of town and village scenes, leisure time activities, schooldays, sporting events and working life (including some in Bonsall). The stories of the lives and deaths of all the servicemen on the Matlock, Matlock Bath and Ernest Bailey School memorials, who lost their lives during the Second World war are told (including four men from Bonsall), together with tales of life on the Home Front: the arrival of the evacuees and Army, exploits of the local Home Guard platoons, the ARP and Fire Brigade, the blackout and blackmarket, VE Day and VJ Day celebrations etc.
